Schloss Klaus is an international Christian youth-retreat house, adult education centre and short-term Bible school run by the Capernwray Missionary Fellowship of Torchbearers. The "Missionsgemeinschaft der Fackeltraeger—Schloss Klaus", as it is known in German, is an Austrian-registered non-profit association recognised by the Lutheran Church of Austria.

Schloss Klaus is a place where people from different countries and cultures work alongside one another and live the Christian life together:

• A place of encounters and friendships.
• A place to feel at ease and to enjoy constructive use of your leisure time.
• A place of training and continuing Biblical education.
• A place to "switch off and refuel".

Schloss Klaus is loved for a very special ongoing task. For more than 30 years, the restored rooms of the old castle and fortress have served the goal of encouraging people to embark on -and abide in - a living relationship with Jesus Christ, through good-humoured fellowship under the Word of God.

Groups who prefer to organise their own programmes are also very welcome. "Sprechen Sie Deutsch?" If you don't, we can translate for you!

Schloss Klaus is: An old sentry-walk and battlements, stairs, halls, landings, nooks, crannies, towers, vaults and cosy rooms, all rebuilt from what was left of an old fortress dating from the 11^th century and from a once-derelict 16^th century castle. Despite the many new facilities, the original character of the castle, with its warm atmosphere, has been preserved - not least thanks to the loving care that our staff take of our guests.

The immediate vicinity of the "Schloss" beckons one to go out walking or simply soak up the peace and quiet in this, Upper Austria’s most densely forested parish. There is huge scope for outings and hikes, taking in anything from a leisurely ramble to a mountaineering expedition. For the truly adventurous: potholing, rock-climbing, climbing trails and practice-crags. For cyclists: Klaus is the starting point of the Steyr Valley bike trail. The village of Klaus is around 30 minutes by car from the "Voralpenkreuz" interchange on the A1 Salzburg-Vienna autobahn, on the B138 road between Wels and Graz. Regional trains on the Linz-Selzthal-Graz railway line also stop at Klaus.

Schloss Klaus is also a Bible school. The increasingly tough demands being made of young adults in their careers and studies often leave too little time for putting one’s personal Christian life on a firm footing. And if we are to play our part in the work of our churches and in the intellectual interaction of Christians with our era, we need to put down deep roots in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This is why in 1980, a short Bible school was started in Schloss Klaus:

Quite apart from the tuition periods, this is primarily a life-school, a faith-school, a relationships-school.... a serious yet light-hearted fellowship in which we aim to discover and practise how to live out attractive Christianity in our churches, families and jobs.

Schloss Klaus ist ein internationales christliches Jugendzentrum und Bildungshaus der "Missionsgemeinschaft der Fackelträger". Die "Missionsgemeinschaft der Fackelträger - Schloss Klaus" ist ein in Österreich eingetragener, gemeinn¸tziger, evangelisch-kirchlich anerkannter Verein.

Schloss Klaus ist ein Ort, wo Menschen aus verschiedenen Ländern und Kulturen miteinander arbeiten und als Christen zusammenleben, ein Ort der Begegnungen und Beziehungen, ein Ort zum Wohlf¸hlen und zu sinnvoller Freizeitgestaltung, ein Ort der Schulung und biblischen Weiterbildung, ein Ort um abzuschalten und aufzutanken.

Schloss Klaus ist Liebe zu einer Aufgabe. Seit mehr als 30 Jahren dienen die restaurierten Räume der alten Schloss- und Burganlage dem Ziel, Menschen durch fröhliche Gemeinschaft unter Gottes Wort zu einer lebendigen Beziehung mit Jesus Christus zu ermutigen.

Schloss Klaus, das sind: ein alter Wehrgang, Treppen, Hallen, Flure, Ecken, Winkel, Türme, Gewölbe, heimelige Räume, aus den Resten einer alten Burg aus dem 11. Jahrhundert und eines verfallenen Schlosses aus dem 16. Jahrhundert wieder aufgebaut. Trotz vieler Neuerungen ist der Schlosscharakter mit seiner gem¸tlichen, warmen Atmosphäre erhalten geblieben. Die liebevolle Betreuung der Gäste durch die Mitarbeiter trägt das ihre dazu bei.

Die direkte Umgebung lädt zu Wanderungen und stiller Einkehr im waldreichsten Dorf Oberösterreichs ein. Viele Ausflugs- und Wandermöglichkeiten, vom geruhsamen Spaziergang bis zur ausgedehnten Hochgebirgstour. Für Wagemutige: Höhlen, Felsklettern, Klettersteige, Klettergarten. Für Radbegeisterte: Klaus ist Ausgangspunkt für den Steyrtalradwanderweg. Die Ortschaft Klaus ist in etwa 30 Autominuten ab Voralpenkreuz (A1) auf der Bundesstrasse 138 von Wels nach Graz zu erreichen. Der Ort ist Eilzugstation an der Strecke Linz-Selzthal-Graz.
