What’s it all about?
Our desire at Capernwray is:
- to provide an environment where people of all ages can discover, develop or reignite a living relationship with Jesus
- to study, understand and communicate the message of God’s written Word, the Bible
- to be equipped to serve Jesus Christ in your local church or mission regardless of your occupation
Who’s it for?
It’s for anyone who wants to grow in their relationship with Jesus. Many of our students have recently left high school or university. Others have been in work and have decided to take time out, or are looking for a change of direction. Some come having taken early retirement. Whatever the reason, do consider becoming one of up to 180 students from 20 or more countries.
Where does it happen?
Capernwray Hall is situated in the north west of England. It used to be a family home, it's just that now that family has grown!! Many of our students and guests call it a castle, even though it was only built in the 1800’s. Capernwray is set in 175 acres of parkland, so there’s plenty of opportunity to find space to relax and think.
A day in the life of .....

Here are some of Erynne's memories of a regular bible school week;
(Not every day is like this, but at least this gives you a flavour of what it’s like)
Up for breakfast, get ready for the day...
Off to lectures! There are four sessions with a tea/coffee break half way through...
Lunch...
Free afternoon - walk the loop (round the park), play a game, get to know other students and staff, work on projects...
Time for tea (dinner/supper depending on where you come from !)...
2 evening lectures...
Supper (hot chocolate and a biscuit)...
A bit of free time before bed...
Lock up!
Saturdays are different – usually a free day. Late start, and often there is a trip organised to a local town or attraction. You will have to pay extra for these trips, but it’s worth it to see and experience more of England!
Fridays and Saturdays there are a number of social activities organised – family nights, film nights, maybe even a British night!
Sundays too are different – there are services morning and evening – but generally a fairly relaxed day.
When does it happen?
Winter School (6 months) starts at the end of September and runs through till March, and Spring School runs from mid-April to mid-June. You can choose to come for either or both! Choose both and make it a full year, September - June.
What our students say about us
“I found Capernwray to be an amazing experience. Not only did I learn so much about my faith, and grow in my relationship with God, I had a great time as well!! It was amazing to be with so many people from all over the world. I’m still in touch with dozens to this day and the things I’ve learned will stick with me forever.”
Andy Parkinson
Going to Capernwray Bible college has made such a difference in my life, I think the last 9 months have been the best thing I’ve ever done. When I went to Capernwray I was a pretty quiet and shy person, but being there has given me so much more confidence. Jesus is the one who gives me strength so I don’t need to worry about anything.”

What subjects are taught?
We cover a broad range of books of the Bible and related subjects. Usually, subjects are studied in depth for one week. The studies are Christ-centred, systematic and thorough, covering many of the books of the Bible and related theological and practical topics.
Lectures are given by resident faculty and visiting guest speakers. Personal study, reading, workshops and regular tests complement the material presented in the lectures.
All lectures are held in English, therefore students must be proficient in understanding, reading and writing English.

Outreach
There are opportunities to get involved in music and drama teams, leading worship at Capernwray as well as going out on outreach in the local area. This may involve visiting local schools, churches, youth groups, prisons and others. Occasionally teams will be away for the weekend. A key part of Winter Bible School is 10-day outreach, a time when all the student body goes out in teams to work with churches or other organisations away from Capernwray. For many this is a highlight of the school, giving opportunity to put into everyday experience what has been taught in the classroom. More recently teams have been to Bosnia and Zimbabwe, and this is an area we are seeking to develop further.
What else?
All students contribute to the life of the school by being involved in daily practical duties, and also a half-day of practical work each week.
There's a travel weekend part way through the first term of Winter School - a great opportunity to visit another part of the UK.
